According to the Westminster website, the Vizsla has 40 entries for best of breed this year. One of the largest group at the show.
The female Vizsla, that was put up to represent the breed, looked small, delicate and dainty in my opinion. I guess that is "the show look" here in the US right now.
(Please remember that I am new to the breed - 4 years. I mean no disrespect to the great accomplishment for the owners of these Vizslas to be able to qualify for Westminster.)
Not at all the rugged hunting dog that "Yogi the Vizsla" represented as BEST OF SHOW at Crufts in England 2010. (A total of 21,422 dogs entered into breed judging. )

The judge for "Best of the sporting group" at today's Westminster went right by the Vizsla in the ring.

The winner of the 2011 Westminster Best of Show is the Scottish Wolfhound.
The Italian best of show judge said that the winner "represented the best example of the standard of the breed 150 years ago".

Be grateful the Viz, dainty or otherwise, didn't win and that as a result rescue isn't filling up with dogs mis-purchased by people seduced by the look and notoriety...
Shows are a funny thing.. I find it sad overall when a breed is so different in the ring that it could not perform it's original purpose well (blatant example of this are the labs, they would not last long in a field at all). I still feel structure wise many "show" vizslas still could.. it's the nose and instincts that are most often lacking in the show lines. This is part of the reason I want to get Luna's show CH.. as well as get her to SH and hopefully MH in the field too. So I can show that "small compact show bitches" can still hunt their heart out.

Our Chloe is small and compact also. We have come across some great smaller bitches at field trials that can hunt well. Good luck with senior hunter and master hunter.
Could the Italian judge say the same thing about the Vizsla as he said about the wolfhound?
Would the Vizsla bred still confirm to a 1860 standard?
Many of the breeds I see at shows wouldn't.
