The Passing of Our Two Red Bird Dogs

With the passing of Bailey last week there will be one last blog post for a good while.  Not saying goodbye as there may be red bird dogs again in our future.

Chloe passed from cancer in 2019, and Bailey from the five years of Valley Fever and the medications to keep it under control.  I stopped posting as old dogs and adventures didn't come along often in the age of Covid-19 lockdowns.

The dogs both passed peacefully and comfortably.  Thanks to the caring staff of Sage Veterinarian Hospital for making their passage painless and relaxed.

Next week, Joanie and I will say our last good byes as we plant two trees in our yard with a mixture of soil and their bodily ashes.  They have moved on, but this will end the chapter fittingly.

We will always hold a special place in our hearts and lives for these two wonderful friends and partners.

Happy trails and trials until we meet again.

Very sorry to hear this. My sympathies.

I have been full timing in an Airstream for a year. I almost quit so I could get a Vizsla puppy - but finally decided to continue and get a puppy. The search was epic - but that is another story. I am waiting for confirmation of pregnancy but may be luck enough to take on a pup in June. I am planning to stay in place for it's first 4 months with me - then begin moving. I'd be appreciative of any tips should you be willing to contact me at Stephen.H.Chamberlin@gmail.com I was shot down several times because I live in an Airstream....but finally found a breeder willing to work with me.

Thanks so much for this. Funny, I have premonitions of contact and communication and several days ago was thinking about your blogs with Bailey and Chloe. I was worried for Bailey after his episode of Yellow Fever and am saddened to know Chloe had cancer and died of it.
I know what
Losing my Scottie was one of the hardest losses of my life, dogs bring great meaning into our lives.

All the best to you and your family,

I have followed Bailey and Chloe for as long as I can remember. Always loved your posts asks I was raising my two V’s at the same time.
Losing my make last year and most recently my sweet female a few weeks ago has been a whirlwind for me.
Sorry to hear of your two.
Hopefully a vizsla will make its way into my home in another that or so. The house is too much quiet.

Hi Rod, I'm so sorry to hear about Chloe and Bailey. Our thoughts and prayers with you and your family. Although we had a brief interaction with Chloe and Bailey, they touched our hearts, we (my wife, myself and our V Rocky) often recall couple of awesome hikes we joined you in bay area. Thank you for providing them an amazing full of life experience and blogging them, we'll always look up to your blogs for so much of good valuable information and pics.

Hi Rod,
My condolences on the passing of your faithful sidekicks. The house must be awfully still. I've enjoyed your posts, appreciated your advice and admired your adventures with the dogs. I hope another lucky Vizsla finds it's way into your home.

Firstly I am so sorry to hear about Chloe and Bailey. I am new vizsla owner and only discovered your blog recently. I hope when you are ready you will continue writing as the posts were interesting and valuable. I joined the vizsla forum group and I wanted to thank you for the comments and advice you give. After wanting the chillest; calmest temperament dog from the breeder .. I ended up getting a full-on; highly strung demon .Your sage words and calm advice have helped me immensely in this journey . I never in my life expected it to be so hard ( I had hunting dogs in the UK so was not a complete novice!) but holy moly, these were a piece of cake to my Ellie. Anyway I really wanted you to know that your words and advice have made a huge impact .. if only you could come to Canada and come help me with my baby! Enjoy your beautiful memories of Chloe and Bailey.

Hi Harry. Well moving into grandparent life with my 4 adolescent grandchildren.
I think grandparenting for other's Vizslas is what is our calling.
Hope to hear from you again.

Sorry for the LONG delay in response. Finally got back to my blog. Even though it is now in the grandparent role for other Vizsla parents. Life goes on and we adapt.
